Staying a night should be more than just a place to stay. That’s why we at Héraðsskólinn Historic Guesthouse believe in more than just a room. With us you can walk in the footsteps of Icelandic history while enjoying all the amenities of a hotel, an on-site restaurant and so much more.
We are located in the heart of the Golden Circle, only an hour away from Reykjavik. Built in 1928 by one of the most loved politicians in Iceland with a great help from the most amazing architect to be a center of culture and education, Héraðsskólinn was the place were Halldór Laxness our Nobel prize winning writer wrote his most famous book Independent People in Room 12 on the 3rd floor of the building.
The school was redecorated in 2013 with mostly original furniture and pieces to restore its amazing history and culture for our guests.
We are very proud to present this historic and beautiful guesthouse/hotel to you.
