Menam offers delicious dishes made from fresh, quality ingredients with the influence of the Thai kitchen. By using the best possible local ingredients and cooking with the magic of Thai cuisine, the best of both worlds is brought out.
Restaurant Menam was founded in 1997 and has since 1999 been owned by the same family. Menam was previously located across the street in a traditional restaurant setting but was closed in 2018. After almost three years of break and great encouragement from the locals, the Menam family decided to open a smaller version of Menam again in the beautiful building “The Old Dairy” in the new center of Selfoss.
Menam means “by the river” as it is located close to the largest river in Iceland, Ölfusá. Our stand has the appearance of a restaurant to praise our history and spirit. We respect the old values of offering fresh and tempting food, at reasonable prices in a pleasant environment that is both fun to work in and to visit. Hospitality and a good spirit have characterized Menam from the beginning and we will do our very best to keep them honored.
Menam´s characteristic flower is the lotus flower which represents; purity, a new beginning, hope, and endurance. Pink lotus flowers also represent pure passion and love for life, which will be reflected in our passion for Thai cooking. The pink color also has a feminine reference that embraces the fact that Menam was originally founded and run by women - as well as the values of the Menam that was - and now is.
Along with the Thai part of Menam, the family opened the first dumpling place in South Iceland - and outside the Capital Region for that matter - with a branch of Dragon Dim Sum in Reykjavik, which had been a real hit. At the beginning of 2023, it was decided to proceed under its own name, Menam Dim Sum, in continued good cooperation with Dragon Dim Sum.
Menam Dim Sum offers excellent quality dumplings and side dishes made from fresh quality ingredients and served in a professional, yet fun way. We respect traditions but at the same time put our signature on the dishes. As before, our dumplings are homemade in Dragons kitchen and our specialty consists of "toppings" and a bit of homemade, tasty sauces that give them that little extra and at the same time unique taste experience.
The original Chinese meaning of dim sum is to "touch the heart", which we strive to do through unique taste experiences for foodies as well as regularly introducing exciting innovations.
At the time, Menam was a pioneer in bringing new trends by introducing Asian cuisine to the locals in the South, which at the time was considered very exotic. Now again, Dim Sum is the first dumpling place in the region, and Menam is therefore once again a pioneer in introducing new food and food culture in the region.
