A new scenic walking path by Geysir
This project aims to create a beautiful walking route around the site, and with this initial phase, access has been opened to areas of the geothermal zone that were previously unavailable to visitors.
In the next phases an entrance square to Geysir will be built where all visitors will begin their experience of the area. This project aims to enhance both the experience and safety in the area. It will also protect nature from visitor impact, as Geysir in Haukadal is currently one of the most visited attractions in South Iceland, with an estimated visitor count of 1.5 million in 2024.
The South Iceland Marketing Office congratulates the Environment Agency on reaching this milestone.
