Midwinter, travellers should expect all weathers so please monitor the forecast closely as conditions can change rapidly. The weather in Iceland is unpredictable all year around so you must always be prepared for swift changes (sometimes often within a day). Remember to monitor the weather forecast and road conditions closely. Do you need ideas for packing? The trick is layering! Here’s a list of items you should bring regardless of the time of year you’re travelling.

What to expect

In March, daylight increases rapidly. During midwinter, all weathers can be expected. Drivers also need to keep in mind that the sun is low in the sky so driving conditions can be challenging and change swiftly. Warm and waterproof outerwear is essential. Southeast Iceland is home to reindeer and drivers should be on the lookout for them as they often keep to the lowlands during winter. The Northern lights will soon retire for the summer. Summer equinox is on the 20th of March.
